Seth likes to kill Osiris. Osiris likes to come back to life.
Isis and Horus ---------------------------------- Seth
After Osiris was dubbed the first king of Egypt (and Isis, the queen), Seth grew jealous of his brother. Being king of Egypt, Osiris took many journeys for the sake of trade with other countries and such. Seth was trusted to look rule the land while Osiris was away. Jealous Seth would help his brother, just waiting to find a way into that throne himself...
Upon one of Osiris' returns to his home, Seth held a dinner party for him. Isis had been watching Seth and felt that it would be in Osiris' best interests to stay back with her. The King calmed his wife and told her that he would wary of whatever Seth might be trying to pull.
At the party, there was dancing, and talking, and dining. Everyone was having a good time. As it got later and people started to tire and leave. But up to this point, Seth had spoken about a coffin that he had made specially for his brother. Osiris and the party guests found this admirable of Seth, for he told of how the coffin was made from the finest wood and carved in a magnificent way. When Osiris had finished whatever conversation he was having, Seth announced to all how he had a gift for his dear brother. He asked his servants - strong men who had arrived at the party a bit earlier to bring out his gift so he could show everyone. People began to clap as the servants brought forth the beautiful coffin. Osiris exclaimed at the coffin and Seth suggested that Osiris get in the coffin to make sure it was comfortable enough for him.
Osiris, in the coffin, noted how he rested comfortably inside. Seth, hearing his approval, told his brother that he would now be remaining in that coffin for the rest of eternity. He ordered his servants to close the lid, as Osiris tried to get up. Once the lid was shut, chains were added to ensure that the King could not get out. Seth had his servants take the coffin and put it in the river, and quickly, he claimed his place on the throne.
When Isis heard of what happened, she was devasted. And she set off to find her husband. In the kingdom of Byblos, she learned of where her husband was. His coffin had washed up into the roots of a tree and the roots grew over him, as he helped the tree grow. Isis had the tree chopped down and the casket removed.
-- and this is where the stories get split.
Either Osiris was ressurected at this point and Seth killed him again - chopping into pieces, or Seth chopped Osiris up when the Isis brought the body back and was preparing for burial.
-- and this is where there are more stories that split.
-----
Well that was of Osiris and Seth.
I was really looking for Horus (Osiris' and Isis' son...split story, yo) and Seth, and their war for the throne.
